Oil Modified Urethane

Oil Modified Urethane Floor Care

  • The finish on your floor will take 30 days to achieve its full cure.
  • Place, do not slide furniture on the floor not less than 24 hours after the floor is finished.
  •  Be sure all furniture has floor protectors underneath.
  •  Do not place rugs or mats on the floor for 30 days.
  •  Do not use recommended wood cleaner on the floor for 2 weeks.
  •  Refrigerators require special attention!  Use floor guards, masonite, or plywood when moving.  Do not use cardboard.  Do not put refrigerator back on the floor for 72 hours.

Keep Your Wood Floor Clean

  • Remove grit regularly with a dust mop, soft broom, electric broom or vacuum.
  • Wipe up spills with a clean dry cloth, or use paper towels.  Use a barely damp cloth to wipe up sticky foods.
  • Dry mop kitchen floor after doing dishes to remove water droplets.
  •  Use ONLY wood floor cleaner designed for your finish.  DO NOT USE waxes, furniture polish, Murphy’s Oil Soap, or other commercially advertised products for wood.
  • Do not use cleaners such as Fantastik, 409, Vinegar, or Ammonia.  All of these products can cause a film, which will make the floor look dull and dirty.  They will also contaminate the floor so that it must be sanded rather than re-coated.

Protect Your Wood Floor

  • Use floor protectors on the bottoms of all your furniture.  These are available in a variety of sizes and styles.
  • High heels can dent the wood fibers of your floor.  This can occur regardless of your choice of finish.
  • Use area rugs in front of the sink and walk off mats at entryways to prevent tracking of water on your floor.
  • All surfaces can be scratched.  Keep dogs toenails trimmed.  Scratches can be repaired.  A small amount of finish can be rubbed into the scratch with a clean, white rag and the scratch will disappear.

Control Your Home’s Humidity

  • Wood is a natural product, which is affected by the humidity in the air.  Dry air will cause your floor to contract, causing separation of the boards.  This can be even more pronounced with a white or bleached floor.
  • If indoor humidity levels drop below 40%, a humidifier should be used to prevent excessive separation.
  • Too much humidity can cause the floor to cup or buckle.
  • If the humidity rises over 50%, use air conditioning.  Fans can be used for ventilation throughout the home as well.
